This Northern California city is positioned along the San Joaquin River and is part of the San Joaquin Valley. Stockton is less than 50 miles from Sacramento and around 83 miles from San Francisco. The city's seaport was built during the California Gold Rush to bring supplies into nearby mining communities, and the city itself was incorporated in 1850. The Port of Stockton is still fully operational today and has grown to around 4200 acres. After the gold rush, the city relied on the production and transportation of agricultural goods which remains a strong local industry. For soaking up the California sun and enjoying the lush green landscape, you can't beat a day at one of the city's two golf courses, Swenson Golf Course and Van Buskirk Golf Course. A few more local highlights include:
- The Haggin Museum. Discover 19th and 20th century masterpieces in this arts and history museum that opened back in 1931. Exhibits also cover California and local history.
